Using both traditional gouges and power tools, Lace McMillen thoughtfully fashions wood of many species into heirloom works of art.

When Lace was growing up she used to enjoy watching and helping her father build greenhouses and complex greenhouse benches (unfortunately she would usually get stuck sanding). So, after leaving a career in the legal industry, she decided to revisit the craft for herself, and quickly became captivated by the incredible beauty of the myriad of species of woods.

Although many of her carvings appear to contain elements (such as flowers, a cross, or a bookmark) that were carved separately and then later attached, Lace enjoys the challenge of making her carvings out of one single piece of wood.

While based in Maryland, Lace has shipped her carvings to countries across the globe… and she still adores the smell of sawdust from her days of working with her dad.
